Hayden Teams Bring Home Six Gold, Two Silver and a Bronze Medal
From Eastern Sectional Championships
LEXINGTON, MA & HERSHEY, PA – January 31, 2012 - Eleven teams representing the Hayden Recreation Center competed this past weekend at the 2012 Eastern Sectional Synchronized Skating Championships in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Nine teams came home with a medal, and seven teams will move on to compete in front of a home crowd at the DCU Center in Worchester at the 2012 U.S. Synchronized Skating National Championships in March.
The Shooting Stars Preliminary and Shooting Stars Pre Juvenile team kicked off the weekend with flawless skates that placed both teams in 1st place in their respective qualifying groups and a chance to compete in the Championship Round of the competition. The Shooting Stars skated with big smiles and had a lot of fun during their final skates. The Preliminary team placed 3rd in a field of eight teams and the Pre Juvenile team placed 2nd in a field of 12 teams.
Next up to compete were the Mini Mates and Team Millennium in the Juvenile Division, the Star Mates in the Intermediate Division and the Ice Mates in the Novice Division. All the teams skated technically difficult programs with high energy and passion. The Mini Mates brought home the silver medal in a field of nine teams. Team Millennium placed seventh in this challenging division. The Star Mates were ecstatic to bring home the gold medal and Eastern Sectional Championship title in their first year as a team. The Ice Mates also brought home the gold medal; this is the Ice Mates 24th Eastern Sectional Championship title. The Mini Mates, Star Mates and Ice Mates have now qualified for the National Championships. The Esprit de Corps Adult and Masters teams also both won their respective divisions and will compete at the National Championships. The Esprit de Corps Open Adult placed seventh with a strong skate in a competitive field.
The Lexettes in the Junior Division and the Haydenettes in the Senior Division both took home the Eastern Sectional Championship title in their respective divisions with commanding scores. Both teams will be representing the United States in Switzerland on February 10th before competing at Nationals where the Haydenettes hope to qualify for the 2012 World Synchronized Championship being held in Sweden. Friends, family and fans can see all the Hayden Teams skate at the Nationals Send-Off Show at Hayden Recreation Center on February 26th from 6:00-7:30 pm, admissions is FREE!
